'PB Fitzroy' - A Cheoy Lee-built RAmparts 2800 Tug for PB Towage

The first RAmparts 2800 tugs built by Cheoy Lee were constructed for a Singaporean client and quickly on-sold to Australian clients. The ‘HIMS Pearl’ became the ‘PB Fitzroy’ when sold to PB Towage, Australia, which operates tugs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The steel, Robert Allan (Canada)-designed RAmparts 2800 tug has an overall length of 28.2 metres and a waterline length of 26.1 metres on a beam of 11.5 metres, a depth of 5.3 metres and a draught of 3.75 metres. Displacing 620 tonnes, the vessel has twin Niigata 6L28HX main engines, each rated 1,838kW, driving twin Niigata ZP-41A fixed pitch propellers producing a maximum speed of 13 knots, a bollard pull of 62 tonnes and a range of 2,300 nautical miles. Onboard power is produced by twin Caterpillar C4.4 gensets, each rated 86kW. The tug is equipped with Unitec winches and capstans and a Mampaey DCX50/65 towing hook. Its suite of communications and navigation electronics include products from Furuno, Com Nav and McMurdo, as well as a Koden KGC-1 compass. The tug’s safety equipment includes two FFS600 fire monitors and a Viking 10DK, ten-person liferaft. With a fuel capacity of 122,600 litres, the vessel consumes 680 litres of fuel per hour. ‘PB Fitzroy’ has a crew of ten. PB Towage (Australia) is a joint venture between Pacific Basin Shipping and the Australian maritime consulting group, Anglo Ports. Its primary business is harbor towage, provided through a fleet of modern purpose-built tugs, operated by a team of professional Australian seafarers. PB Towage operates ten tugs, currently offering harbour towage services in the ports of Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney (Port Botany). With four new tugs due to be built in the next two years, PB Towage also plans to extend its port coverage in the near future. Supplementing these vessel support operations, PB Towage is developing contract towage, emergency response and salvage capability together with charter options for the Australian maritime industry.
